Green Flag award-Interpretation Boards

Filed under: Green Flag Award — Editor @ 8:51 pm

Interpretation Boards

On Friday, South Staffordshire Council’s Landscape department placed new interpretation boards at both the start of the Wom Brook Walk, close to Rushford Bridge, and in the centre of the village (see photo above) close to the picnic benches at Gravel Hill.

This is part of the ongoing work being undertaken by South Staffordshire Council in pursuit of the Green Flag award, mentioned in past blog entries.

When completed, the boards will provide information on that particular section of the Brook, including details of flora and fauna indigenous to the Wom Brook. Included should be the elusive water vole-seen twice in the last fortnight!

Other boards are to be placed along the remainder of the route of the Brook as it passes from east to west through Wombourne.

Watch out for car thieves!

Car keys
Police are requesting residents of Wombourne to be vigilant after a thwarted attempt was made last Friday night 18th April between 5:00-5:50 pm to steal vehicle keys from a Stourbridge Rd. property.

The front door of the property was forced open, and a search made of the kitchen for vehicle keys. The house alarm disturbed the thieves and they made off empty-handed. If you were in that vicinity at the time and saw anything suspicious, please ring Staffordshire Police on

08453 30 20 10

Police advise where possible that you garage your car, and keep your keys in a secure location.

Stream clearance at the Pool Dam Bridge off Rookery Road

Pool Dam Bridge Stream clearance

Due to the ravages of time and weather, bricks from the retaining wall on the Rookery Road side of the Wom Brook have gradually been dislodged and have found their way into the water. (Wombourne residents will recognise this part of the Brook - just below the Pool Dam Bridge, connecting the Guide Hut with Rookery Road, close to the vet’s)

Today a working party from the Friends of Wom Brook brought wheelbarrows in order to carry away surplus bricks and slabs to be collected later by South Staffordshire Council.

The aim of today’s project was not just to improve the appearance of the Wom Brook at that point-but also to restore the originalĀ  flow of water thus limiting an increase in the water weed coverage.

The bricks are just visible in the foreground of the photograph.
